top有名词、动词、形容词三种用法。

做名词的时候意思为顶部、顶端。He was standing at the top of the stairs.他站在楼梯顶端。这里的at the top of在顶端，      是一个常见短语。

做动词的时候有超越、补足的意思。为别人倒水的时候可以为，Can i top up for you?意思是给你的杯子加满好吗？

做形容词的时候top有的，头等的意思。例如学校叫做top university
