Regardingsearch engine usage, Google remained the most widely used platformthroughout the period. Althoughits market share declined slightly from 36% to 31% between 2004 and 2003. it thensurgedto 53% by 2010. Yahoo ranked second,but followed a downward trend. Starting at 28% in 2001. its number of users fell marginally with significant fluctuations, reaching20% in 2010.

Theremaining three search engines attracted fewer users. Among them, Mirosofts was used more frequently, with its figure dropping gradually from 16% to 9% between 2004 and late 2007. followed bya steady increase toits initial figure in 2009. The last year saw a marginal dip by 1% in 2010. By contrast, the other two choices were much less favored. Ask Jeeves’s usage rose graduallyfrom 8% to a peak of11% between 2001 and 2005. after whichthere was a marked decrease with minor fluctuations to 5% in 2010. Likewise, AOC exhibited a similar trend, fluctuating slightly between 7% and 10% during the same period.
