Germany had the highest proportion of women with higher education qualifications (45%), closely followed by the US at 40%. Compared with women, men in both countries made up smaller proportions, at 35% respectively, resulting in a wider gender gap in Germany than in the US.

The remaining three countries showed the opposite pattern, with men consistently recording higher proportions than women. Switzerland had the largest percentage of men (45%), significantly higher than the figure for females(35%). Japan recorded the lowest figures for both genders, with 30% for men and 25% for women. Britain showed a similar pattern, where 35% of men held higher education qualifications, 5 percentage points higher than the corresponding figure for women.
