I am shocked and saddened by the assassination of my friend and longtime partner Shinzo Abe in Japan. Former Prime Minister Abe was devoted to both the country he served and the extraordinary alliance between the United States and Japan. I will always remember the work we did to strengthen our alliance, the moving experience of traveling to Hiroshima and Pearl Harbor together, and the grace he and his wife Akie Abe showed to me and Michelle. Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to the people of Japan who are very much in our thoughts at this painful moment.
I am shocked and saddened by the assassination of my friend and longtime partner Shinzo Abe in Japan.
sadden: to make sb sad 正式用语,意为“使悲伤;使伤心”;
assassination: murder of a public figure by surprise attack 意为“刺杀”;在“安倍遇刺”事件中也可以用“shoot: to kill or wound a person or an animal with a bullet, etc.”
Former Prime Minister Abe was devoted to both the country he served and the extraordinary alliance between the United States and Japan.
be devoted to 致力于;献身于。
alliance (国家、政党等的)结盟;同盟;结盟团体;缔结联盟可表示为“to form/make an alliance”
I will always remember the work we did to strengthen our alliance, the moving experience of traveling to Hiroshima and Pearl Harbor together, and the grace he and his wife Akie Abe showed to me and Michelle.
The move is clearly intended to strengthen the President's position as head of state.
Hiroshima 广岛
Pearl Harbor
Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to the people of Japan who are very much in our thoughts at this painful moment.
condolence: to give/offer/express your condolences
sb is in one' thoughts 一个非常地道的表达,例如美国国务卿布林肯在听闻安倍之事后表示“Our thoughts, our prayers are with him, with his family, with the people of Japan.” 澳洲总理阿尔巴尼斯表示“our thoughts are with his family and the people of Japan at this time.”
(Really BAD NEWS FOR THE WORLD!)”。
Former President Donald Trump and Mr. Abe built a friendship over rounds of golf, shared burgers together and spoke dozens of times on the phone. “Few people know what a great man and leader Shinzo Abe was, but history will teach them and be kind,” Mr. Trump said in a statement posted on Truth Social. “He was a unifier like no other but above all, he was a man who loved and cherished his magnificent country.”
On behalf of the Biden family and all of America we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Abe family and the people of Japan. I had the honor to get to know the Prime Minister when I hosted him at the vice president’s residence and when I visited with him in Japan.
It is not only a loss to his wife and family — and the people of Japan – it’s a loss to the world. A man of peace and judgment — he will be missed.
With sympathy,
Joe Biden
On behalf of the Biden family and all of America we extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Abe family and the people of Japan.
I had the honor to get to know the Prime Minister when I hosted him at the vice president’s residence and when I visited with him in Japan.
拜登称,安倍的死亡,不仅是他的妻子、安倍家族以及日本人民的损失,更是世界的损失(it is not only a loss to his wife and family — and the people of Japan – it’s a loss to the world.)。
A man of peace and judgment — he will be missed.
Biden also took a moment to reflect on recent mass shootings in America saying: “While there are many details that we do not yet know, we know that violent attacks are never acceptable and that gun violence always leaves a deep scar on the communities that are affected by it.”
